When a Shower Door Leaks or Won’t Close
How to recognize alignment, hardware, seal and glass problems—and what information helps diagnose a shower-door repair.
Start with the symptom, not a guessed part
A door that drags, shifts or will not close may have an alignment issue, worn hardware, a loose component or movement elsewhere in the enclosure. A leak can come from a sweep, seal, silicone joint, door gap, curb condition or water direction.
Replacing a random hinge or sweep before the full system is checked can leave the real problem untouched.
Stop using visibly damaged glass
If tempered glass is chipped, cracked, striking another panel or moving unexpectedly, stop operating the door and keep people away from it until the enclosure is assessed.
Tempered glass cannot be trimmed or re-drilled after fabrication. Damaged glass or an incompatible hole pattern may require a measured replacement panel.

The repair depends on the existing enclosure and whether compatible parts are available.
- Door alignment and movement.
- Compatible hinges, pivots, handles and related hardware.
- Bottom sweeps and vertical seals matched to the glass and gap.
- Selected silicone joints and channels after the source of water is identified.

- One straight-on photo of the complete shower.
- Close photos of each hinge, pivot, track or problem area.
